Disney Buys Tapulous, Mobile Game Maker Of Tap Tap Revenge

Walt Disney Co. (DIS) said it bought the maker of the popular Tap Tap Revenge game for Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) mobile devices like the iPhone.

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Tapulous Inc. will become a subsidiary of the entertainment giant in its interactive media group. Disney said the purchase will strengthen its portfolio of games in the mobile arena.

Disney already has a number of popular games in Apple's app store, including JellyCar 2, which it calls its most successful for-pay game to date. But none come near the ubiquity of Tap Tap Revenge, which has installed by more than 30% of iPhone and iPod touch users, according to the company.

Disney will absorb the Tapulous development team, including founders Bart Decrem and Andrew Lacy, who will take on leadership roles at the division.

In the Tap Tap Revenge game, users shake or tap their devices in rhythm with music.

Disney shares were flat after hours at $31.49. The stock has risen 34% in the last year, outpacing the broader market's gain.
